"An American in Vienna"

Ensemble Wiener College
Rene Staar, director

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1932, the composer Eugene Hartzell settled in Vienna in 1960. In 1987, he co-founded the Ensemble Wiener College with Erik Freitag and Rene Staar. In 1999 he was awarded the Music Prize of the City of Vienna. Hartzell's works, many of which incorporate elements from jazz, are models of precise structuring and musical expressivity.
