Brazilian-born composer Raimundo Penaforte has had performances of his compositions around the world, and in the U.S. at such venues as Lincoln Center, The White House, and the Kennedy Center. Widely commissioned, he currently resides in New York City where he teaches at the Third Street Music School and the United Nations International School.

The Valerius Ensemble, founded in 1988, is a chamber music ensemble based around a group of musicians most of whom are also members of the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra.
