Master of the concerto form, Mozart has been the only composer of note who gave the horn such a prominent position in the repertoire. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th Horn Concertos were written in the 1780’s in Vienna at the time of his artistic maturity, but there is a complex story behind the 1st (KV412), with speculation about its authenticity. There are no recorded public performances of any of the Horn Concertos, which indicates there were possibly no performances of the works during Mozart’s lifetime.

Grove’s Dictionary of Music has labeled Australian Barry Tuckwell ‘the leading horn player of his generation’ and, with three Grammy nominations, the musician has led a stellar 50 year international career including a 13 year commitment as Principal Horn with the London Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared all over the world as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor with over 40 recordings as horn soloist. Presently he guest conducts, teaches and gives lectures and masterclasses around the world.
