Orchestral Music: symphonies, concertos, suites, overtures, serenades, etc.
ORCHESTRAL MUSIC is any piece composed to be performed by an orchestra. These would be pieces such as symphonies, concertos, suites, overtures, serenades, etc.
The classical orchestra features a combination of strings (violins, violas, ‘cellos, double basses), woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon), brass (trumpets, French horns, trombones), and percussion instruments.
Larger orchestras would include the harp, tuba and celeste, among other instruments. Orchestras can vary in size from 20-30 members to one hundred or more members.
Pieces known as concertos are written for a solo instrument (such as piano, violin, clarinet or even pipe organ) with orchestral accompaniment.
